I would like to say first that Cloud is definitely my favorite (aside from the whole vegetable part of the story)... but as a second, I always lean to Tifa.
First off, she's well connected. She brings all the characters together in the beginning. She has the best possible value for her Limit Breaks. She can be funny (invading Don Corneo's place anyone?), but she is also sweet. I always keep her in my final party (the one with Cloud). Also, she is kind of appealing to my senses.
I liked the Mysteriousness of Rufus. He had a collective attitude. I loved his appearance in AC. Just a somewhat Anonymous Sexiness if that makes sense.

My favorite character has to be either Tifa or Aerith.
I would have to say Cecil when he transfers from the Dark Knight to his Paladin form cause he just turns into such a bada** haha :D
Would probably be Yuffie, but only because she could get it. And by it, I mean my penis, and by get I mean something you'll eventually learn about in school unless your parents are total prudes.
Cait Sith. Fav character, just to cool. Plays craps to own you and has a slot machine, yells at you and controls a giant mooogle...who both are being controlled from Reeve. Imo one of the most unique characters Square has made. I first liked him when I first heard his theme song.
Barret is my favorite, i've been playing ff7 for as long as i can remember, and i've always had Barret in my party. I love all that random &%@# he says, on top of that his limit breaks are imo the coolest looking.
I would go with RedXIII because he looks super cool.....and maybe Cid too because everyone loves a super badass spear =) and his limit breaks are tight as well
I like Tittie ohhhh, I mean Tifa...o.o
I love Vincent and Genesis, but Cloud (I can't exclude him 'cause he's too awesome) would come in second and Zack and Sephiroth would come in third.
FFVII-Sephiroth,he has a HUGE a** sword and I liked when Aerith/Aeris died
FFVIII-Squall/Leon
They're both very calm most of the time and Sephiroth just has a better history than Squall/Leon.

Cid is the only charcter who even comeS close to Cloud! ClouD is definitely the most awesome charcter in FF7 but as this post is asking without including Cloud it has to be Cid as he is funny (bit of a filthy mouth as well lol!) and he is MEGA HARD when powered up!!!
Red XIII (Nanaki). He looks badass with the scar on his eye. Also like his story with his father, Sato. It was the deepest moment in FF7 for me, not Aeris' death.

I would have to go with Vincent. The ominous nature of the character and his natural demeanor really made me like him a lot. I've always liked characters that use guns as weapons (excluding Yuna/Rikku/Paine in FF X-2 lol =p) and even Vincent's back story was very interesting. Great character all-around.
It would have to be Aeris, such an enchanting character...
I liked the minor members of AVALANCHE too though, they were a laugh, like biggs and jessie :) :)
My favourite is Genesis (FF C.C) of course. If we're talking just about FF7, then its probably Vincent. His gun is a kick ass weapon.

I adored him from the start - once I got him from the Mansion, he never left my party. The way his back story was hinted at but never fully explained in the game had me intrigued, curious and frustrated in equal measure. But then I've always been a sucker for the mysterious types, and I loved the idea of him being an ex-Turk (since by that point I was also loving Reno and Rude). That and the epic love story with Lucrecia. Whenever I play VII now, I always do the Hojo rooftop showdown as just Vincent, for the sake of poetic justice.
The way they did Vincent's CG for Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus had me taking cold showers, and Steve Blum's VA for him was the icing on the cake.
